ProPublica has started a project that focuses on hate and and hate crimes that are statistically unreported. Hate crimes can occur in various situations and in various levels; the most drastic, of course, being murder. ProPublica’s effort is to bring light on those undocumented crimes by documenting them and making them known.
“Hate crimes and bias incidents are a national problem, but there’s no reliable data on the nature or prevalence of the violence. We’re collecting and verifying reports to create a national database for use by journalists, researchers and civil-rights organizations.”
ProPublica provides space for victims to tell their story, for journalists to get involved and participate in the project, and for the public to learn more about what the 2016 election has statistically shown with a jump in hate crimes. Be sure to read ‘Resources for Victims and Witnesses of Hate Crimes and Bias Incidents‘ section to be informed.
