Throughout this political season, writers, artists, creatives, journalists, and everyday people were faced with a multitude of threats against basic and moral liberties and rights. And after this administration’s recent lack of history and empathy for African-American/American and World history, it is essential that this moment become documented, for our sake.
In an interview with photographer and mentor Thaddeus Miles about his work and his effort to shift our perspectives, I felt inspired to directly seek work that contributes toward sharing world-views and perspectives while also seeking words that document this moment in our history. Thus, This Moment was created.
This is a direct call, a response to everything that has happened so far and a response to all that is to come with this administration, to document This Moment in our history.
Political power starts with our voice.
This Journal actively seeks personal narratives that shift our perspectives and asks readers to find value in each other’s words and in our own.
This Moment is a self-narrative project that asks us to be present, if for only a few minutes in our lives, to the events around us. The purpose is to become conscious of our experience in relation to what has happened throughout this political season and since this administration came into power. My intention is to feature these moments as a collection of our voices and as a record of our response to this political climate.
